В село, когато са опитвали да се настанят цигани са ги гонели. Така там етнически проблем няма.
Въпреки това селото не може баш без тях. Стари кадъни с особен търговски нюх и надарени с език, който продава, обикалят от къща на къща бабите, предлагайки им турски дрехи и всякакви текстилни боклучета от най-ужасен плат и шарка. Бабите купуват. Цигани на средна възраст пък обикалят селата (преди със старите лади, вече със стари опели) и през един говорител повтарят запомнящите се викове „Орехии купувам, вълнаа, стари акумулатории, орехии купувам….“. Така и не разбрах какво ги правят тия орехи. Най-интересни са обаче калайджийте.
Стар занаят отдавна достоен единствено за циганите. Доколкото помня идват цяло семейство в селото и докато мъжете наклаждат огън и подготвят мястото, жените обикалят по къщите и преговарят с бабите, които винаги имат по някоя стара медна съдина, която трябва да се калайдиса. Понеже някой може да не знае – ще уточня. Медта освен много добър проводник на ток е и много добър проводник на топлина, което я прави подходяща за готвене. Обаче от въздействието и с въздуха по края и се образува патина, която е отровна. Затова ако ще се ползват за готвене медните съдове трябва да бъдат добре калайдисани. Процесът доколкото знам е доста трудоемък и затова само циганите се занимават с това.
Баба веднъж даде един голям бакрач (не съм сигурен дали така се казва, ама е нещо като котле) за калайдисване. Те са едни такива тежки и много черни отвън. Като казаните на вещиците от детските приказки. За да се ползват не трябва печка – навън се наклажда огън, а те се поставят в обръч с три крака – това се налага от овалната форма на дъното. Върнаха го много блестящ отвътре и както винаги с дебел слой сажди отвън. След второто му ползване обаче видяхме, че ръждясва. Бързо се разбра – когато са го взели са изчукали дъното и на негово място са сложили обикновено желязо. След това са обгорили добре да не си личи отдолу, а отвътре са го калайдисали, както само те си могат. Взели са ни парите за работата, а тежкото дъно са продали за 7-8лв за всеки килограм. Далаверка.
Та така, напоследък си мисля как цялата ни такава. Вместо хубавите медени дъна на котлетата се слага чисто желязо и после се замазва положението. С калай. Защото е лъскав. Докато не ръждяса.
